Testosterone (T) hormone production typically begins to decrease in men at 35 to 40 years of age. On average, testosterone decreases by 1-2% every year. That's 20% every ten years and for many it's much faster! By the time men reach the age of 50, symptoms of low T (aka hypogonadism) have begun. Their quality of life begins to decline and chronic disease development (cardiovascular disease, obesity, cancers & many more) ensues.
*Symptoms of hormone imbalances in men include:
Muscle loss
Low sex drive
Erectile dysfunction
Fatigue/Sluggishness
Increased body fat (especially the waist area)
Hair loss
Memory loss
Irritability
Elevated blood sugar
High cholesterol
Many people think of testosterone only in regards to libido. However, adequate testosterone is vital to muscle mass, strength, mental clarity, memory, and even maintaining glucose control. Studies have shown that 57% of men with type 2 diabetes have low T levels. Guess what improves glycemic control? If you said optimal testosterone levels, you're right!
Unfortunately, men usually chalk their symptoms up to, "I'm just getting older and I have to live with it".
Well, that is NOT true! You no longer have to live with low T decreasing your quality life or placing you at risk for chronic diseases!
Bioidentical testosterone hormone replacement therapy (BHRT) in the form of pellets safely optimizes T levels, decreases inflammation and studies have shown them to be heart, brain, breast, prostate, and bone protective.
Compounded pellets are bioidentical in nature, meaning the molecular structure of the pellet is identical to the natural testosterone produced in the body.
Bioidentical pellets have been used since the 1940's. They are compounded by pharmacies that maintain rigorous standards set forth by the Current Good Manufacturing Practice regulations. These are monitored and enforced by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA).
As above, pharmacies who compound the pellets are monitored closely by the FDA to ensure quality and safety. However, the pellets themselves are not FDA approved in the United States. Much data regarding the safety of hormone pellets has come from decades of use throughout Europe by both men and women.
Bioidentical testosterone replacement therapy is safe. It is natural and not at all like the synthetic testosterone used by body builders or athletes that causes heart and liver damage.
Risks of the quick procedure are minimal, but could include infection, bleeding, bruising, swelling, pain, extrusion, or scarring.
Each pellet is about the size of a grain of rice. They are placed into the fatty layer just under the skin of the flank (love handle) or upper hip region after local anesthetic is provided. From the pellet, testosterone is slowly released into the bloodstream until it is completely dissolved, typically over 5 to 6 months time.
